Apostrophes

There are several reasons why apostrophes are used in the
English language and it is important that we follow the rules for using them in our everyday work. Do we know when and why to use the apostrophe?
1. Omission: leaving out a letter(s) = you are --> you’re
2. Belonging: Charlotte’s house was five minutes from school.
3. Belonging (plural): The boys’ trousers were filthy.
4. Belonging (with S ending): Jesus’ mother was called Mary.
