Egyptian Cinderella

There are hundreds of versions of Cinderella all over the world- why not take one of the versions as a starting point for a new unit on Stories from other Cultures. As my class had been studying Ancient Egypt, it was well worth looking into the Egyptian version- it helped with discussing the culture of Egypt (today and 3000 years ago!) We discussed what culture was and compared the culture of Egypt to our own in the UK. We also compared the Egyptian version of Cinderella with the well-known Western version, originally written by Charles Perrault in 1697 and animated by Walt Disney in 1950. The children loved re-enacting the story through drama and it was a great opportunity to take some freeze frame photos of individual scenes to create a display that retold the story.
