Raining outside? Too cold to go out? Too hot to run around? Or limiting movement due to COVID-19? Many of us teachers have faced the dreaded thought of sorting out something appropriate for our classes that will keep the children calm or use up as much energy as possible that your next lessons will run smoothly. Below you will find a number of activities that will either have your kids up on their feet and jumping around, or sat down in peace, quiet and calm. Every day is a different day - what kind of activity do your class need today?

Lego - quiet, calm classrooms all over the world also love Lego/building blocks!
Twenty Things - display a range of items on a table or on screen. Remove one. Which one is missing?
Scattergories - 12 categories, one letter of the alphabet and three minutes to find a word for each.
Dictionary - children choose a very hard word from the dictionary and make up two more definitions. Read out the two fake and one real definition. The class must guess the real definition.
Fizz Buzz - come up with the rules with the class, e.g. fizz for every multiple of 3, buzz for every multiple of 5, fizz buzz if both. You're out if you say a number instead of fizz or buzz and vice versa!
I Went To The Shops - a great memory game. Go around the class, adding new items to the shopping list, each starting with the next letter in the alphabet. Can you remember the whole list?

Guess Who- Classroom Edition (No Equipment Needed)1. Ask one person in the classroom (the guesser) to close their eyes
2. Choose someone to be the 'suspect' - pointing at them secretly 3. Everyone in the class stands up 4. Guesser opens their eyes and has 6 guesses to find the suspect (the teacher answers) 5. Children eliminated from the investigation must sit down after each guess 6. Guesser announces the suspect after 6 guesses - are they right? Adapt to your class - 6 guesses might be too many or not enough... |
