More Spelling Tips

Ten Top Tips:
1. Say the word in your head and listen to it.
2. Write it down and look at it. Does it look right? If ot, what changes would make sense?
3. Spelling is either right or wrong (no grey areas) so choose carefully.
4. If it's a long word- don't panic. Say it, listen to it, write it down or just the bits you know.
5. Most long words are made up of smaller words or chunks of letters.
6. Some long words have little words inside them- look out for them. There's a 'rat' in separate- make them up yourself!
7. Get to know your sound choices- if it's an 'n' sound that you hear at the beginning of a word, then know that the choices are 'n', 'kn' or even 'gn' (as in gnome)!
8. Get to know some basics- lots of words have bits stuck on the front (prefixes) and lots have bits stuck on the end (suffixes). Know them and use them.
9. Look for patterns- if it's baby/babies, then it stands a good chance of being city/cities.
10. Get the easy ones right! No excuses for getting words wrong that you need to use all the time, like 'the,' 'said,' 'tomorrow'.
