Twenty One Tunnels by Year 6
It is so often the case when writing with a class, that the length of the unit to be covered means that you end up stopping a narrative half-way through. The constraints of the curriculum dictate that you move on quickly to the next area and your children are left with a half-finished story. I often feel that we short-change our pupils and they never quite get that sense of achievement they deserve from having completed a story. So I put my foot down: it would take as long as it needed to. It was important that if we were going to do this, then we'd go the whole way- drafting, editing, proof-reading, swapping stories, sharing with other year groups, typing up, more editing and proof-reading, and finally (the cherry on the top), illustrating our work as well.
Thank you to Pobble for providing the inspiration. The image we began with is in the header above. From here, we put our heads together and suggested what kind of world lay beyond the rings. Below is the link to the image and the wonderfully useful Pobble 365 website.
