Words Ending in Y

There is one key rule for these words and that is: if the word ends in ‘y’ remove the‘y’ and replace with an ‘i.’ This applies to all words that add the suffixes,‘ness’ ‘er’ ‘est’ ‘ed’ ‘ly.’
There are two key exceptions to this:
1. If adding ‘-ing,’ the ‘y’ remains. E.g. supply --> supplying.
2. If adding‘-ed’ and there is a vowel before the ‘y’ just add ‘–ed.’ E.g. carry --> carried; play --> played.
